Missing High/Low

I must admit, I am loving my new position as Director of Christian Education for Children in Tallahassee. Last week during mid-week activities I got to spend time with the elementary aged group, getting to know them. They were so energetic and excited to begin bonding.

This week, during mid-week activities, I spend time with our 3-5 year olds. We learned about Joseph’s coat, that God was with him and is with us still. I enjoyed getting to know each little person and their quirks and am excited to watch them grow in relationship with God and just plain grow up!

However, the past two Wednesday nights, I’ve been missing something from my Cola life. I’ve been missing high/low. My campus minister introduced high/low in my life when I was in college (I’m pretty sure she got it from a movie). Ever since then I have carried it in my bag of tricks. One of my highlights as Minister of Student at SABC was getting to touch base as a group with each student present on Wednesday night. We would take turns, going around the circle sharing the best and worst thing about our week.

I miss that… A LOT!

So, my low for this week was not getting to share high/low with anyone. My high for this week is continuing to connect with new friends here at Faith.

What is “Songs of my Faith”?

In May of 2010, I was driving by myself from Columbia to Raleigh. For some reason, Thomas had stayed home and could not talk on the phone while I was driving. So, I decided to flip through some old CD’s in my car and pop one in.

The CD’s were dated for sure. But with each one, there came a flood of memories. Many of the songs brought back times in my life when my faith was much different from what it is today, but times that the music had shaped me or spoken to how I was feeling then.

I thought to myself “If I ever actively blog, I want to do a series on these songs. I want to share about music that has traveled with me on my journey of faith.” And so, tomorrow, the series will begin. Most Fridays I will share a “Song of my Faith” (SomF) and how it played a role in my life and maybe some thoughts on it now. My hope, is that many people will be able to walk this memory lane with me and share how these songs traveled with them also.

Kid’s Corner

I am in the beginning stages of creating a “Kid’s Corner” in my new office at Faith. I started by using old items I had around the house to make a pillow.

The pillow is made from:

T-Shirt (Brown, Rooted from Caswell a few years ago)
Tank (White for eyes)
Stained pillow (stuffing and buttons for pupils)
Too small long sleeved shirt (blue print)
Shirt Bella chewed (light brown fabric)

I did not use a tutorial to make the pillow. I just found the applique here, printed it on freezer paper, and applied it using this technique. However, I left the paper inside.

There were already so puzzles and coloring supplies, so I just brought a basket from home and thus we have the start of my “Kid’s Corner”. As I add items, I’ll update you.

Bapterian or Presbytist?

In case you missed it, I joined the staff of Faith Presbyterian Church in Tallahassee, FL on January 2. This is a pretty big shift for me. I am serving as the Director of Christian Education for Children, which is right up my ally. However, for those of you who know me well, you will note that much of my identity as an individual has been rooted in my Baptist heritage/upbringing/self-alignment.

The decision to make the move to Florida was two-fold. First, I was tired of not living with my husband. Second, I found a church that I felt matched my passion.

T-Shirt Hat

So Thomas and I have about a bajillon t-shirts. Many of them come from church functions over the past few years.

About 8 months ago, I began using Google reader to get some craft blogs on a regular basis. U Create is one of the main ones from which I glean ideas because she points you to tons of other blogs. One of the first ideas I marked that I wanted to try was this t-shirt hat.

23 Day Meal Plan

Thanks to Nanny Goat, I found a solution to the reoccurring question for Thomas and me of “What’s for dinner?” Now that I’m working full-time (I know 25 and the first time I’ve every worked full-time, kind of crazy) I don’t want to have to come home and decide what’s for dinner.

Homemade Christmas Gifts

For Christmas I decided I would make some gifts. Mainly for nieces or nephews in our family, but one adult snuck in too.

I love to read craft blogs. I randomly end out at some destination on the web from clicking through about twenty blogs and then forget to bookmark the page so I can go back and make the craft when I have the time.
